Ottawa Chow Qigong

Welcome to the Ottawa Chow Qigong Association Website!

Please note that due to the Covid-19 virus, all classes are cancelled until further notice.

Our mission is to promote optimal physical, mental, and spiritual health through the regular practice of Chow Qigong, as created and developed by Grandmaster, Dr. Effie Chow.

'Qi' means "breath or vital life force", and 'gong' means "to cultivate or work". Qigong means to cultivate your breath or vital life force to its maximum. This vital life-force energy permeates all of nature. It is the vital force in our bodies that controls our biochemistry and all other functions and behaviour.

Qigong is a form of easy-to-follow,
gentle-flowing exercises, breathing, and meditation. Qigong is an ancient Chinese energy healing system that strengthens one's vital life force. Qigong is the source of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Qigong is a lifestyle, a way of living in harmony with nature. It is practiced through exercises, meditation, and other practices that strengthen the body, mind, and spirit.

Qigong fosters optimum health by keeping the 'Qi' energy balanced. Practices resembling Qigong may go back as far as 10,000 years. Benefits of Qigong have been widely researched, and include the prevention and treatment of a wide range of chronic and degenerative conditions prevalent today. Examples include burn out, headaches, stress, depression, and auto-immune disorders such as fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis, chronic fatigue, and environmental sensitivities.

The Ottawa Chow Qigong community has been offering Chow Qigong classes to the Ottawa public since 1997. In 2005, we incorporated as the Ottawa Chow Qigong Association, a non-profit organization.

All individuals, inclusive of all physical abilities, are warmly invited to join us for a free introductory session.
